RetroSound AM / FM to DAB+ Antenna Adapter Splitter (DAB1)

    Description
The RetroSound DAB1 antenna adapter splitter transforms a standard AM / FM antenna into a dual-purpose aerial capable of receiving both analogue AM / FM and digital DAB / DAB+ radio broadcasts. Suitable for classic cars, modern vehicles, and custom retrofits, this active splitter works with RetroSound stereos or any aftermarket head unit equipped with a DAB / DAB+ tuner. It splits and boosts incoming radio signals to deliver clear digital reception without needing to install an extra window glass antenna or drill additional body holes for a separate DAB aerial.

    Key Features:

    • Dual Band Conversion: Converts standard AM / FM aerials to receive DAB, DAB+, AM, and FM signals simultaneously.
    • Active Signal Amplification: Integrated active module split-amplifies signals to preserve strong analogue reception while boosting digital DAB+ clarity.
    • Preserves Vehicle Styling: Eliminates the need for secondary windscreen glass-mount antennas or extra body holes, maintaining an authentic factory appearance.
    • Active Aerial Compatible: Compatible with active non-phantom aerials such as the RetroSound HPA and WPA amplified hide-away antenna.
    • Universal Fit: Compatible with both classic vehicles and modern cars running on 12V electrical systems.

    Technical Specifications:

    • Model / Part Number: DAB1
    • Operating Voltage: 12V DC
    • Power Wiring: Red wire (+12V switched ignition / remote lead), Black wire (Chassis ground) - ensure power source is clean and noise-free.
    • Antenna Input: Standard DIN / Motorola female antenna socket
    • AM / FM Output: Standard DIN / Motorola male antenna plug
    • DAB / DAB+ Output: Gold-plated right-angle SMB female connector

    Suggested Uses & Applications:

    • Retrofitting DAB / DAB+ digital radio capability into classic, vintage, muscle cars, or modern vehicles.
    • Connecting factory telescopic, rod, or power antennas to RetroSound stereos or aftermarket DAB+ head units.

    Installation & Wiring Tips:

    • Power Wiring: Connect the RED power wire on the module to a 12V DC switched ignition power source or the radio's remote antenna trigger lead. Connect the BLACK wire securely to chassis ground.
    • Aerial Connection: Plug your original vehicle antenna lead (or RetroSound HPA1 antenna plug) directly into the female DIN socket on the DAB1 module.
    • Head Unit Connections: Plug the male DIN lead into your head unit's AM / FM antenna input, and connect the gold-plated SMB plug to the radio's dedicated DAB / DAB+ antenna port.
    • Antenna Adaptors: If your vehicle's factory aerial cable or aftermarket radio uses non-standard connectors (such as ISO, FAKRA, or Japanese factory plugs), appropriate optional antenna adaptors will be required to convert to standard DIN and SMB fittings.

    Compatibility & System Notes:

    • Modern Vehicle Compatibility: Works with modern vehicles operating on 12V DC electrical systems. Check antenna socket styles beforehand, as modern OEM radios or aerial cables often require plug adaptors.
    • Disable Radio Phantom Power: If your radio has the option, turn OFF phantom power (DAB antenna power supply) in your radio's settings menu. The DAB1 receives power via its RED and BLACK wires; supplying phantom power down the coaxial SMB cable can cause signal interference or module damage.
    • Active vs Passive Aerials: Compatible with passive rod/telescopic aerials as well as non-phantom powered active aerials. Not compatible with antennas that rely on radio phantom power.
    • 12V DC Systems Only: Designed exclusively for 12V DC negative earth electrical systems. Do not connect to 24V commercial vehicle systems.
