Most of the new vehicles around today utilise CANBUS (also known as CAN; CAN-BUS; CAN BUS; C-BUS) to transmit the specific data and conditions between devices and these signals are available via the CANBUS interface on the OBDII connector. The OBDII is the vehicle's "On-Board Diagnostics" connector and is fitted to most cars these days. If your vehicles has this connector and is newer than 2008, this interface should work, in fact many vehicles before 2008 will work as well, though we cannot guarantee that 100%. The model CB2 should cover most other vehicles if the CB2OBD doesn't work. Navigation units or other devices (telematics, trip recorders, taxi meters, data logging, tracking) need a speed signal to operate, they use this to determine speed and distance to ensure accuracy.

This CANBUS signal translator is designed to provide a speed and RPM signal, model CB2OBD. Simply wire it up and go, no programming required!

Despite the low cost, this CAN BUS interface features built-in diagnostic LEDs to indicate CAN BUS status to aid the installation process. Instructions are included.

    Example Applications:

    • Navigation Systems
    • Taximeters
    • Cruise Control
    • Car Audio
    • Fleet Management
    • Parking Sensors
    • Telematics
    • Speed Limiters
    • and more...

    Installation:

The CANBUS uses two wires for data transmission. One is called CAN HIGH and the other is called CAN LOW (sometimes marked as "CAN+" and "CAN-" respectively). The CANBUS connections on the CANBUS interface should be connected to the appropriate CANBUS connections with an insulated solder joint. Do not cut the CANBUS wires.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: All connections are for guidance only. Vehicle manufacturers can vary wiring from model to model. It is advisable to check the vehicle wiring diagram.

    CANBUS Speed Interface Connections
    Colour I/O Description
    Black I Ground
Red I Power +12V regulated ignition controlled supply via 1A fuse
    Yellow I CAN High
    Blue I CAN Low
Orange O Speed pulse output (VSS)
    Green O Engine Speed (RPM)
    1. CAN HIGH and CAN LOW connections are picked up from the OBDII connector, this is usually located under the dash or under the carpet.
    2. Locate OBD II connector: Pin 14 CAN Low, Pin 6 CAN High.
    3. Power can also be obtained from most OBDII connectors but be aware these devices will draw a low amount of power all the time, so it is recommended that a fused ignition supply is located for the power.
