    Visaton - Polyester Damping Material
    Art. No. 5070

    Description
Premium damping material made of high-quality polyester wool, engineered to provide excellent acoustic damping properties within loudspeaker enclosures. This lightweight, clean material is safe to handle, easily cut to size, and straightforward to fit into any cabinet shape without irritating fibres.

    Specifications

    • Packing unit: 125 g (2 mats, enough for an internal volume of up to 20 l) approx.
    • Dimensions: about 40 x 50 x 3 cm per mat approx.
    • Material: 100% Polyester, highly resilient.

How It Works & What It Does
Polyester damping wool works by converting acoustic energy into thermal energy. As sound waves pass through the dense network of fine polyester fibres, the air molecules vibrate and rub against the material. This friction converts the kinetic energy of the sound waves into microscopic amounts of heat, effectively absorbing unwanted reflections inside the speaker enclosure.

By absorbing these internal standing waves and mid-range reflections, the wool prevents them from bouncing back through the speaker cone and muddying the sound. It also tricks the woofer into acting as if it is in a larger cabinet. The thermal properties of the wool slow down the speed of sound slightly inside the box, which can effectively increase the perceived internal volume of your enclosure by up to 10% to 15%, resulting in a deeper, cleaner, and more controlled bass response.

    How to Use
For standard acoustic damping, loosely fill the speaker enclosure. Cut or tear the mats to fit the internal dimensions of the cabinet. The mats should be distributed evenly throughout the space but kept loose, do not compress or tightly pack the wool, as over-packing restricts the airflow and reduces the material's absorption efficiency.

Ensure the damping material is kept well away from the rear of the speaker cone and any moving parts. For ported or bass-reflex enclosures, make sure the polyester wool does not block the internal opening of the bass port, allowing the tuned air column to flow freely. For acoustic suspension (sealed) boxes, the entire volume can be loosely filled to maximise the perceived cabinet volume increase.
