The ATTB 5001.02 is a passive dipole radio aerial for AM / FM broadcast reception, developed and manufactured in Germany by Antennentechnik Bad Blankenburg (ATTB), which has stood for quality and reliable radio networking since 1919. It is designed for retrofitting to vehicles and is intended to be fitted in or on rigid, self-supporting plastic assemblies, ideally at an elevated position such as a roof or roof structure. It needs no metal ground plane, and has an integrated 3.4 metre RG174 cable terminated with an ISO 10599 male plug (an adaptor may be required depending on your radio connection).

It suits vehicle retrofits, caravans, motorhomes and custom installations, and can be a useful option for retro car audio restorations or where the original aerial cannot be used or repaired.

Why Choose a Passive Dipole Aerial?

• No Ground Plane Required: Unlike a standard whip aerial, which relies on a metal roof or panel to work properly, a dipole works independently of a metal ground. This makes it well suited to plastic, fibreglass and other non-metal structures. Please note that metal panels will shield any aerial fitted behind them.
• Indoor or Outdoor Use: The manufacturer rates it as suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C. No protection (IP) rating is listed, so it should not be treated as weather resistant.
• Passive, No Power Needed: Requires no 12V power connection or turn-on signal, so installation is simple, and there is no amplifier to add noise or draw power.
• No Amplification: Because it is passive, it cannot overload a tuner the way some amplified aerials can in strong signal areas, which can suit sensitive older analogue radios.
• Slim and Discreet: A slim round tube, approximately 20mm in diameter and 1.4m long, that can be wedged into a tight spot or fixed with clips or cable ties, with no whip to catch on branches or car washes.

Installation Guidance:

• Intended Mounting: Designed to be fitted in or on rigid, self-supporting plastic assemblies, ideally at a high position such as a roof or roof structure.
• Metal Bodies: Metal panels shield the aerial. In a metal-bodied vehicle, mount the element close to glass and clear of metal, and test reception before final fixing. Heated grids / electric demisters, metallised or athermic glass and metallic tint film also reduce reception.
• Element Length: The aerial element is approximately 1.4m (1423mm) long. Allow a clear run for it and do not cut, shorten or coil it.
• Orientation: Install the element in a largely straight line, or at 90° from the feed point to fit a corner.
• Cable Routing: Do not run the coaxial cable parallel to the aerial element. Keep a minimum clearance of more than 10cm, and keep it away from other wiring and electronics.
• Securing: Can be wedged in a tight spot or secured with cable ties, clips or other suitable non-metallic fixings.
• Safety: Do not mount the aerial or cable in airbag zones, such as behind trim marked SRS or AIRBAG, or where it could block the driver's view.

Test Before Final Installation:

• Temporarily tape the aerial in position with painter's tape and test AM and FM reception before fixing it permanently.
• Try a few positions and compare, such as a window edge or a plastic panel.
• Switch on and off accessories such as USB chargers, dashcams, fans, demisters, light, and other devices to check for interference.
• Make sure the plug or adaptor is fully inserted, and that your head unit's antenna power setting is off for this passive aerial. An optional standard DIN adaptor is available.

Please Note:

• This is a passive AM / FM aerial. It does not receive DAB or DAB+.
• Can be used with an amplifier for the AM/FM bands. DAB/DAB+ reception via a splitter is not guaranteed.
• Passive aerials give weaker AM reception than FM, especially for distant stations.
• Reception depends on the vehicle, the mounting position and any glass treatments.
• Some vehicles and head units use a Motorola aerial socket, so an adaptor may be needed.
• If your head unit supplies power to the aerial socket (phantom power), please check with us before connecting this passive aerial.
