RetroSound Radio Face to Body Remote Extension Cable (274 cm / 9 ft)

    Description
The RetroSound face to body extension cable is a specialised remote mounting solution engineered for RetroSound modular vehicle radios. This heavy-duty extension harness enables you to mount the main radio body up to 274 cm (9 ft) away from the radio display faceplate and control shafts. It is the ideal accessory for custom vehicle restorations, hot rods, and classic cars where behind-dash depth is severely restricted. Aftermarket air conditioning systems, custom heater boxes, or structural bracing often add ducting that interferes with standard radio bodies. With this extension cable, the radio body can be neatly concealed under a seat, inside the glove box, or behind a kick panel while preserving a factory-correct dashboard appearance. Only adjust controls from a safe, stationary position or when traffic conditions allow full attention to remain on the road if they controls are located elsewhere than the normal radio mounting position.

    Key Features:

    • Extended Remote Mounting: Relocates the radio body up to 274 cm (9 ft) away from the control faceplate and shafts.
    • Solves Clearance Issues: Eliminates dashboard fitment problems caused by aftermarket air conditioning ducting, heater cores, custom gauges, or tight firewall clearances.
    • Preserves Authentic Dash Aesthetics: Allows the period-correct RetroSound control face and shafts to mount directly in the original dash opening while hiding the main tuner unit elsewhere.
    • Modular Connector System: Fitted with direct-fit multi-pin connectors for the radio display and modular jacks for the control shafts.
    • Flexible Wire Routing: Low-profile flat cable layout allows easy routing under carpets, behind trim panels, or through interior bulkheads.

    Technical Specifications:

    • Cable Length: 274 cm (9 ft / approx. 2.74 m)
    • Cable Style: Flexible multi-pin ribbon extension harness
    • Radio Compatibility: Compatible with RetroSound modular radio bodies (including Motor 1, Motor 2, Motor 3, Motor 4, Motor 6, Hermosa, San Diego, and Long Beach series)
    • Connections Included: Main display faceplate ribbon plug and dual shaft RJ-style connectors
    • Mounting Style: Hidden remote chassis installation

    Suggested Uses & Applications:

    • Retrofitting RetroSound radios in vintage cars fitted with under-dash or in-dash aftermarket air conditioning systems.
    • Custom street rod and classic car builds where dashboard depth is restricted by structural firewall modifications.
    • Concealing radio bodies inside glove compartments, under front seats, or behind centre consoles for ultra-clean custom interior layouts.

Installation & Fitment Warnings (Please Read Before Ordering & Installation):

    • Shaft Backing Plate Disassembly Required: Connecting the extension cable to the control shafts requires removing four small screws from the rear backing plate of each shaft assembly. Take care to store these small screws safely during installation.
    • Cable Strain Relief Folding: When attaching the extension cable plugs inside the control shaft housings, fold the internal wiring neatly back down into the lower notch to provide proper strain relief before resecuring the backing plate.
    • Wiring Routing Safety: Route the 274 cm extension cable carefully through the vehicle cabin. Keep the harness clear of sharp sheet metal edges, pedal assemblies, steering columns, and high-heat HVAC components.
