Designed to absorb RF power and provide an ideal impedance match, this terminator is essential for safeguarding the sensitive input ports of spectrum analysers like the RF Explorer, as well as protecting RF signal generators, power amplifiers, and receivers from accidental damage.

    Why Use an SMA Port Terminator?
    Exposing an open, unterminated RF port to strong ambient electromagnetic fields, static charges, or high-radiation environments can permanently degrade or destroy sensitive internal mixer diodes and front-end LNAs (Low Noise Amplifiers).

    • Port & Front-End Protection: When transporting or storing your spectrum analyser (e.g., passing through airport X-ray scanners or working near high-power broadcast towers), removing the antenna and fitting a 50 Ohm dummy load prevents high energy spikes from entering the port.
    • Signal Generator Protection: Operating an RF signal generator or transmitter without a load connected causes RF energy to bounce back (high VSWR reflection), which can overheat and burn out the output stage. Fitting this termination load absorbs up to 1 Watt of continuous RF power safely.
