Monacor MDM-20 Speaker Sealing Tape - Grey (Part No. 0123010)
Description
The Monacor MDM-20 is a practical, self-adhesive grey polyethylene (PE) foam sealing
tape engineered for DIY loudspeaker construction, cabinet repairs, and soundproofing applications. Designed to create an
airtight acoustic seal between mounting surfaces, this tape effectively prevents air leakage around woofer baskets, horn
flares, terminal plates, and removable back panels. By maintaining airtight cabinet pressure, the MDM-20 optimises bass
response and enclosure efficiency while dampening mechanical vibrations to prevent unwanted rattles.
Key Features:
- Airtight Acoustic Seal: Prevents air pressure loss around speaker drivers, terminal cups, handles, and cabinet cutouts.
- Vibration & Rattle Reduction: Resilient PE foam layer absorbs mechanical resonance and eliminates cabinet rattles.
- Self-Adhesive Backing: High tack adhesive backing ensures quick, mess-free application to clean timber, MDF, metal, or plastic surfaces.
- Economical 20-Metre Roll: Ample length for multiple speaker builds, subwoofer enclosures, or large acoustic panel installations.
- Internal Sealing Application: Ideal for non-visible internal joints and driver mounting flanges where reliable airtight performance is essential.

Suggested Uses & Applications:
- Sealing woofer, midrange, and tweeter frames against MDF or timber speaker baffles.
- Airtight mounting of terminal plates, crossover cups, bass reflex ports, and handles.
- Dampening metal-to-wood or metal-to-metal contact surfaces in PA and automotive speaker enclosures.
Installation & Application Tips:
- Surface Preparation: Clean all mounting surfaces thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol or a grease-free cleaner to ensure maximum adhesive bonding.
- Application Technique: Apply the tape smoothly along the driver flange or cutout perimeter without stretching the foam, preserving its uniform 2 mm thickness.
- Joint Sealing: Cut butt joints cleanly at a slight angle where ends meet to prevent air gaps at tape connections.
Important System Caveats:
- Temperature Limits: Designed for operating temperatures between 0 and 40 °C. Avoid exposure to extreme direct heat.
- Single Use Compression: Compression during speaker mounting might permanently alter foam thickness; replace sealing tape whenever drivers are removed or replaced.
