The CB1J1939 - HF CAN Bus interface is designed to provide a vehicle speed pulse signal (VSS) and engine speed (RPM) from SAE J1939 CAN Bus vehicles, including commercial trucks such as Volvo and Mack. The unit monitors the SAE J1939 CAN Bus network for specific messages and generates corresponding output signals on the wire loom.
Please note that this interface must be powered from a +12V DC supply only.
Features:
- Provides vehicle speed pulse (VSS) and engine speed (RPM) outputs for SAE J1939 commercial vehicles.
- Built-in diagnostic LEDs to indicate CAN Bus status and speed pulse output to assist installation.
- Designed for fleet management systems, taximeters, and telematics applications.
Installation Details:
- Power supply must be +12V DC only, preferably from a good ignition - controlled regulated supply. A solid chassis earth connection is essential.
- Connect CAN High (pin 2, Yellow) and CAN Low (pin 7, Blue) to the vehicle network with an insulated solder joint. Do not cut the CAN Bus wires.
- We recommend picking up CAN High and CAN Low connections from the automatic gearbox ECU where possible, as it has the least amount of data traffic. On some vehicles (such as Mercedes), connections can be made at the ignition switch.
- Mount the interface close to the ECU (approximately 5 to 10 cm away). While power wires can be extended, do not extend the CAN High and CAN Low leads.
- If extending the signal output wire (Orange), run it away from equipment that emits electrical interference, such as ignition systems or heater fans.
- Diagnostic LED sequence: Upon power-up, the RED LED illuminates while searching for CAN Bus data. When valid CAN Bus data is detected, the RED LED turns off and the GREEN LED illuminates. While operating, the GREEN LED flashes according to engine RPM, and the RED LED flashes according to vehicle speed.
Connections (note: not all outputs are available on every vehicle):

Important Notes:
All connections are for guidance only and to the best of our knowledge. Vehicle manufacturers can vary wiring from model to model, so it is advisable to check the vehicle wiring diagram. Note that the presence of a CANBUS system does not necessarily mean that the CANBUS carries speed signal information. In addition, vehicles can have more than one CANBUS network, with usually only one network carrying the speed signal information.
