    Beijer Automotive Tesla CANBUS Interface

Tesla cars are known for updating their cars over-the-air. An advantage of this is that users always have the latest software versions with the newest functions and improvements. However, the disadvantage is that the characteristics of the car can change causing, for example, taxi meters to no longer function properly. To avoid such problems Tesla and Beijer Automotive have joined their forces and developed a solution in the form of a special BCI-TESLA CAN-interface. As a result, a taximeter or other equipment in the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, S, and X from around 2020 onwards will always continue to work, despite interim Tesla updates. See list below for specific details.

Connecting a BCI is quick and easy, we do recommend professional installation. Once connected to a constant power supply, a ground and two CAN wires, the BCI will automatically determine the car make and type. The BCI needs no more than 20 seconds to recognise the car, after which it will control the relevant outputs. And locating the CAN connections in the car is easy too with the help of the free INCAR instruction that comes with every BCI via online login.

    BCI Tesla Features:

    • Supports CAN
    • Improved functionality for remote CAN logging
    • Can be used as a probe for remote CAN bus analysis
    • USB-C connection

    Outputs (Vehicle dependant):-

    • Speed pulse
    • Switched power supply (also may be called accessories / ignition depending on the car system)

Specifications (pin-outs vary depending on model):-

    • Power Supply: 7.5V DC to 32V DC
    • Maximum current consumption (unloaded): Normal mode: < 80mA ~ 12/24V
    • Sleep mode: < 2.0 mA ~ 12V and < 1.5mA ~ 24V
    • Outputs: all outputs are (temporarily) protected against short-circuit to power supply and ground.
    • Digital Outputs (connector pins 11 and 12):
      • Voltage range: VSupply from 7.5V to 32V
      • Pull-down to ground
      • Max. current: 500mA per output
      • Thermal protection
    • Frequency / Digital Output:
      • 10V with pull-down to ground (BCI-2: V-supply with pull-down to ground)
      • Max. freq. 2 kHz
      • Max. current: 50mA/output
    • Digital outputs
      • 10V with pull-down to ground
      • Max. current: 50 mA/output
    • Note: pull down to ground is a digital low signal, not directly connected to ground / chassis.
    • Temperature: Operating temperature: -40 °C / +85 °C
    • Protection level: IP40
