AC-3 for Newer Amplifiers Without an RF Decoder - Clearout Price!

The basis for this kit is a high quality circuit board already containing mounted components which will convert the RF output from your LaserDisc Player into a standard digital output stream (S/P DIF - Sony / Philips Digital Interface) that can be read by any Dolby DigitalTM decoder. It utilises a large scale Pioneer DSP chip which does most of the processing.

This is useful for those surround sound decoders or receivers that are do not have the demodulator built-in. Many recent units do not have the RF Digital input as a cost saving measure and also because LaserDisc is not so popular anymore. You can easily check by looking on the back of your receiver. Look for an input designated RF Digital or similar. If this is missing, then the chances are you do not have a demodulator!

This kit only converts the RF digital signal from a LaserDisc Player to a normal S/P-DIF digital signal. It does not source the RF signal from inside the LaserDisc Player. If you do not have an RF output (normally labeled AC-3 or Dolby DigitalTM), then you will still need the AC-3 Output Kit.

We also have available a switchable digital input source device, the CLU. This can be supplied with an RF Demodulator fitted to enable easy switching, say between DTS and RF digital signals.

Installation

It is relatively easy to install and can be mounted in either the LaserDisc Player or in the decoder or receiver using the details in the downloadable files below. We have found the best location is usually the LaserDisc Player due to the lack of space in most decoders or receivers. It can also be mounted in a stand-alone box if required. You simply hook up the appropriate wires as per the specification sheet below. Ensure your wiring is neat and tidy to avoid short circuits! The board is approximately 7.12 cm x 8.64 cm (2.8" x 3.4") so will need a bit of space.
